Limits to know
- PNG files made from camera photos are often much larger than equivalent JPG files
- Converting to PNG cannot restore detail that was already discarded when the HEIC image was created

- Live Photos, depth maps, bursts, and other HEIC metadata are not preserved in the PNG output
- The tool creates a converted copy and never edits or deletes the original HEIC file

Is PNG output lossless?
Yes. PNG uses lossless compression for the decoded image pixels. However, converting HEIC to PNG cannot recreate information that was not present in the HEIC source.
Why is the converted PNG larger than the HEIC file?
HEIC is designed to store photographs efficiently, while PNG preserves pixels with lossless compression. Detailed photographs therefore commonly produce much larger PNG files.
Does the converter keep the original resolution?
Yes. The decoded width and height are preserved. The tool changes the file format without intentionally resizing the image.
Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?
Yes. Add multiple files, convert the batch, then download results individually or together in a ZIP archive.
What happens to HEIC metadata and Live Photos?
The PNG contains the rendered still image. HEIC-specific data such as Live Photo video, depth information, bursts, and most metadata are not copied into the new file.
Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?
Use PNG when lossless pixels or a PNG-only workflow matters. Use JPG for ordinary camera photos when broad compatibility and smaller file sizes are more important.
